Asanteman Coventry UK is the official non-profit community association for people of Ashanti descent living in Coventry and surrounding towns. We preserve our rich cultural heritage, strengthen unity among our people, and support the welfare and development of our members in the UK and Ghana.

To build a united, empowered, and culturally vibrant Ashanti community in Coventry—one that inspires pride in our heritage while uplifting the lives of members and contributing meaningfully to society in both the UK and Ghana.
About Us
A Cultural Home for Ashantis in Coventry and Beyond
Asanteman Coventry UK (formerly Asanteman Midlands Coventry Association—AMCA) was formed to bring together Ashantis in Coventry and nearby towns who share a love for our cultural values, identity, and traditions.
Our constitution (enacted on 20 August 2024) guides our operations and ensures fairness, transparency and strong governance within the Association.

What We Offer
Culture, Care, Empowerment and Community Impact
Cultural Heritage Preservation
Preserving Ashanti culture through festivals, language, music, dance, and education.
- Akwasidae Celebrations: honouring our ancestral spirits and showcasing royal Ashanti traditions
- Traditional Drumming & Dancing: preserving “Kete,” “Adowa,” and other symbolic performances.
- Storytelling & Oral History Sessions: sharing ancient Ashanti tales, proverbs and wisdom.
- Language Education: promoting Twi-speaking sessions for children and adults.
Welfare & Member Support
Offering welfare support during key life events and transitions.
- Bereavement Support: substantial financial aid (£2,000 or £1,000 depending on the case) and emotional support.
- Wedding/Marriage Support : £500 plus gifts for members marrying or blessing their union.
- Childbirth Support: £250 plus gifts and nappies for each newborn (up to two children).
- Sickness & Hospital Visits : home visits, groceries and £100 support for members in challenging times.
Community Building & Social Engagement
We create meaningful opportunities for members to meet, build relationships, and strengthen community spirit.

Leadership & Governance
Our Leadership Structure
The Association is governed by two key bodies working together to ensure peace, progress and accountability.
Executive Board
Responsible for day-to-day administration, planning, coordination, financial oversight, and general management.
Positions include:
- Chairperson & Assistant Chairperson

- Treasurer & Assistant
- Welfare Officer & Assistant
- Organising Secretary & Assistant
Traditional Council
Responsible for cultural and traditional affairs, upholding Ashanti customs, and supporting ceremonial functions.
Positions include:
- Upholding Ashanti traditions
- Cultural guidance and preservation
- Ceremonial event support
- Traditional protocol oversight

Drafts rules and operational guidelines.
Electoral Commission
Conducts elections and manages voter records.
